Shanghai is one of the biggest cities in China as well as in Asia. It is located at the tip of Yangtze Delta and discharging outlet of Yangtze River to the sea. With over 24 million residents, it is a huge agglomeration of industries, transportation and trades, science and technology, domestic and international finance, with a leading GDP among all cities in China. By possessing a deep urban cultural heritage, on the other hand, Shanghai is famous for its glamorous history of being an “epitome” of modern China. It is a place where the local traditions and diverse cultures brought by immigrants have met and amalgamated, creating a unique “Shanghai-style Culture”. It also acts as a front buffer to receive and internalize fashions and cultural waves from the western world, witnessing the collision and harmony of different ideas. Therefore, Shanghai is truly the right place to experience how economic globalization and local cultures interact, interpenetrate, and equilibrate.
